These series need no introduction…
#5 – Chappelle’s Show
Dave Chappelle is sketch comedy personified. He is probably the funniest man to ever grace this planet. While only running 2 (and a half) seasons, Chappelle’s Show set the world on fire immediately. Co-created with Neal Brennan, who is an excellent comedian in his own right, every single episode contained sketches that have gone down in history and stand the test of time. Sure, there is no narrative arc throughout the series, the acting isn’t going to win any awards and it’s not your mama’s television show. But, guess what? This ain’t your mama’s list, either.
#4 – Curb Your Enthusiasm
Here is another show which has a complete and utter lack of…poor episodes. I don’t like Seinfeld, but I love every moment of Curb. Watch any episode, if you don’t like it, you probably won’t ever. But if you do, you have just headed down a very funny rabbit hole.
#3 – Breaking Bad
We all know how wonderful this show is. I may not have been as high on the finale as most people were, but that takes nothing away from how great this show was from start to finish. The writing on this show is probably the best ever in a television series.
#2 – The Wire
Yes. It is that good. Yes. You should watch it. The way that they were able to shift from season to season, giving us different perspectives along the way is mind-boggling. Kudos to being able to keep the quality at such an insanely high level throughout the seasons, while still shifting and innovating in each season.
#1 – The Leftovers
There is nothing better. No show, no movie, no book. This television series, from start to finish, is my favorite creative work of all time.
Just. Watch. It.
What are your favorite television shows of all time? Do any of these make your list?
