Film of the Day (04/19/18): Ant-Man

Ant-Man
Written By Edgar Wright, Joe Cornish, Adam McKay and Paul Rudd
Directed by Peyton Reed

Hey look, a superhero origin story! I’m starting to feel like I’m stuck in deja vu…

So this one was a lot of fun. And it felt totally appropriate in that regard, as not only is the premise a bit silly (even by superhero standards), but Paul Rudd plays the title role. So, while the story does take itself serioisly, it doesn’t ever lose its sense of joy. Marvel films can occasionally feel like retreads, with the weight of the world always crashing down upon the main character. And while there is a bit of that here, it’s more restrained.

Overall, this is just two hours of good time at the movies without needing to think, andI appreciate that.
