Film of the Day (04/18/18): Thor

Thor
Written By Ashley Miller, Zack Stentz and Don Payne
Directed by Kenneth Branagh

Another day, another origin story! This was a solid, if unspectacular, entrant in the MCU. Hemsworth and Portman have good chemistry, and I enjoyed Idris Elba as Heimdall. Having no knowledge of Thor, Loki and company, I thought the film did a good job introducing new characters, locations (most notably Asgard) and larger threads into this ever-expanding story.

One thing I certainly enjoyed was the fish out of water aspect of Thor, stripped of his powers, living as a mortal on Earth. It reminded me of Captain America’s sense of aloofness after waking up from the deep freeze, but amplified much higher. It made for some funny and genuine moments, as well as good action.

Solid work all around. I doubt it’s one I will revisit, but I’m glad I watched it and will plow through the other two before Infinity War comes out!
